Horizontal Machining Centers

Used horizontal machining centers – overview and technical data of available machines.

Used horizontal machining centers (HMC) are built for long run times: the horizontal spindle lets chips fall away freely, and the pallet changer keeps the spindle productive while the next pallet is being set up. That makes them the first choice for series production of larger parts.

Why buy used?

If you want to cut non-productive time and machine several sides at once, a used HMC delivers very high spindle utilization at a manageable investment.

Typical applications

  • Housings, gearbox and pump parts, cylinder heads
  • Multi-side machining in one setup on cubes or fixtures
  • Series production with high spindle utilization

What to check before buying

  • Pallet changer and B axis (indexing table): condition, backlash, change time
  • Spindle hours, tool magazine and tool holder
  • Chip and coolant handling (critical in horizontal machining)
  • Control and spare-parts availability
  • Pallet size, pallet load and travels

Frequently asked questions

When is an HMC better than a VMC?

For series parts, multi-side machining and when spindle utilization and chip fall matter. For one-off parts and plates the VMC is often the more economical choice.

Do I need special fixtures?

Usually yes: cube or tower fixtures use the pallet best. Ask us about the accessories available with the machine.

How do I find out the price?

The price is quoted individually per machine (“price on request”) – we usually reply the same day.
